| Design and
Development |
| The concept of
design refers to the stylistic elements
of a web site that give rise to its
aesthetic appeal whilst development
refers to the software code that is
generated enabling those artistic
elements to be viewed on a browser, i.e.
Internet Explorer. Initially, this is
usually the most expensive aspect of
having a web site but it is a
stand-alone cost. |

Microsoft platform exclusively and our
sites are designed using Expression Web,
Visual Studio 2008 and SharePoint
Designer in conjunction with the .Net
framework and SQL Server 2005.
Expression Web and SharePoint Designer
employ Master Pages for the common or
themed elements of the web site and
Content Pages for specific information
displayed on individual pages. SQL
Server 2005 enables database development
for large content sites and Visual
Studio 2008 is used for the creation of
scripting software for animations, etc.

software packages for the creation and
optimisation of images and photographs. |

Many of our web sites are tourism-related, i.e.
individual destinations and tour operators who
wish to attract an international audience, and
the majority of all our sites are mainly
brochure-type in style. This type of
custom-designed web site is the most inexpensive
and well-suited to the tourism-based sector as
well as to the many small and medium enterprises
who wish to maintain a professional web presence
while keeping cost low. |

International Hosting |
|
Our hosting
facilities are situated on servers in
the UK. We have found that international
hosting is cheaper and far more
efficient in terms of service as well as
from a technical standpoint, i.e.
international bandwidth is greater than
that in South Africa and hence the
download times – the time taken to
display a web page in a browser – are
far quicker than were we to host locally. This lack of bandwidth
locally would obviously impact on
international visitors to our sites.
Independent testing by one of our
clients has shown that local hosting is
also slower for local visitors to local
sites. This is presumably because both
host and client bandwidth is constricted
for local hosting whereas only client
bandwidth is constricted where sites are
hosted abroad. |
| Our hosting server has a large number of
features, the most notable of which is that it
is Windows 2003 Server-based and supports
ASP.net versions 1.1, 2.0 and 3.5. We also offer
SQL Server 2005 for those clients requiring
database applications. The facilities on our
server include Smarter Stats which is a
comprehensive on-line statistics tool offering a
plethora of built-in as well as custom reports,
3D graphics and data-mining capabilities
allowing our clients to monitor the activity on
their sites. |

| We also offer an
email hosting facility utilising
standard POP3 mail boxes with
comprehensive spam filtering and virus
checking. There is also a web mail
facility allowing each user to access
email using a standard web browser.
Thus, users can access their mail from
anywhere in the world and can also
compose and send emails using this
facility. Additionally, users can set
spam filtering preferences for their
email and manage the service using their
web browser. |
