	Develec's Remote Data Capture unit provides a solution for data capture in harsh environments such as on the factory floor. The system uses a reliable, proprietary RS485 network and is controlled from a standard Windows Personal Computer. The unit has been designed to be customisable and can be configured to suit your application. Please contact us with respect to your requirements. simplicity and reliability The unit consists of a controller, an optional keypad and an optional LCD display. The design of the controller has been optimised with a view to increased reliability and reduced cost. The units can be purchased fully packaged or as Printed Circuit Board/s (OEM) to be incorporated into your systems or equipment. enclosure The enclosure has a sloping front panel angled at 20 degrees from the horizontal. The unit can be mounted on either a horizontal or a vertical surface. When mounted on a vertical surface, the front panel slopes at 70 degrees from the horizontal. The front panel keypad is a lexan sheet that can be customised with your company colours, logo and even the keypad layout can be changed. The keypad consists of individual high reliability switches mounted in machined holes behind the lexan.

RS485 Multi-drop Network: supports many devices using only one cable and operates reliably even in the presence of electrical interference. The units have been installed successfully in a large engineering workshop with hundreds of machines and electric furnaces for heat treatment. Power is supplied to the units from the network cable. Serial Bar-Code Scanner Interface (either RS232 or TTL compatible): allows the user to scan bar-codes. This facility can, for example, be used to identify the user (log-in) and to scan job cards. Serial Printer Port (Either RS232 or TTL compatible): allows the unit to drive a ticket printer or another serial device. This port is currently reserved as it is not used but can be defined to suit your application's requirements. LCD Display: The system currently supports a 20-character by four line (80 total), LED back-lit LCD Display. Other display configurations such as 80x4, 16x1, etc can also be configured, on request. Keypad Interface: The system currently supports a 30-key keypad using extremely reliable discreet switches. The keypad also has 5 LEDs (Power, Network Poll, Logged In, CAPS and Alpha). The keypad interface is accomplished using Shift Registers to provide extra inputs and outputs. This customisable port can be used to extend the capabilities of the unit and can control other devices such as 7-segment displays, indicator lamps, sensors and actuators. The Shift Register design allows many different input and output configurations. Extra Expansion Port: An extra expansion port is provided that can also accommodate a Shift Register expansion scheme or can be custom configured. The extra expansion port allows the system to use the keypad and additional devices simultaneously. PC Keyboard Port: The low price and flexibility of a PC keyboard makes it an ideal data capture device. Whilst the abovementioned keypad is extremely rugged and can withstand extreme conditions, a PC keyboard is far less expensive and easier to use. The low price means that the PC keyboard is expendable and can easily be replaced if damaged. The PC keyboard port can be configured for your application if required.
